What’s New and Exciting
Gordon competes in London to Paris Cycle Tour
At the end of June Gordon Ilett took part in the London to Paris Cycle Tour, a closed road cyclo-sportive event, with timed race sections and hill climbs.
Gordon’s challenge was to stay with the group one riders, including double Olympic gold medallist James Cracknell (a great windbreak!); Stephen Roche, on his 21st anniversary of winning the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and World Championship in the same year; and Emma Davies-Jones - Commonwealth medallist, European professional cyclist and Eurosport commentator.
After 3 days and nearly 600km the riders arrived in Paris, rode past the Arc de Triomphe and on to the finish at the Eiffel Tower.
Gordon reported the highlights to be ‘racing in the peleton at over 62kph in the flat race section outside Calais, the ‘brutal’ cobbles of the climb to Mont Cassel, and the buzz of riding on closed roads with a police escort into the centre of Paris to be met by my wife and family’.

Acuvue® Centre of Excellence
We are proud to have become an Acuvue® Centre of excellence, working in partnership with Acuvue® to ensure our patients get premium service and product choice. |
 |
As an Acuvue® Centre of Excellence, our optometrists are trained on all the latest contact lenses from Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, and when new product are launched, we will be amongst the first to offer them to suitable patients.
As an independent practice, we can of course use contact lenses from any manufacturer and will always advise the most appropriate contact lens for an individual patient.
Pachymeter
As part of our philosophy of providing thorough eye examinations using the latest technology, we have recently acquired a pachymeter at both our practices.
The pachymeter measures the thickness of the cornea, allowing us to more accurately measure eye pressure and better assess patients' risks of developing glaucoma

Frames on Faces
Our latest technology investment addresses the age old problem of wanting to try on new spectacle frames but not being able to see what they look like because you haven’t got your specs on! The ‘Frames on Faces’ programme takes images of you in up to 4 different frames at the touch of a button.
The images are available to view instantly and are displayed on a computer screen, allowing you to choose which frame suits you best. ‘Frames on Faces’ is now available at both our practices. |
