Contact Lenses are liberating! They offer clear, comfortable and convenient vision and freedom in daily life, when playing sport, or for changing your image for special occasions. Contact lenses are perfect to wear in the summer, meaning you can have the trendiest designer sunglasses too.

At Leslie Warren and Linklaters, our optometrists are trained to fit all types of contact lenses in the latest materials and designs to suit most prescriptions, lifestyles and budgets.

Contact lenses need not be expensive; we offer a variety of ways to pay for your lenses based on lens type and frequency of wear. Most patients who wear their lenses on a daily or regular basis find our Direct Debit Scheme the most convenient and cost effective. The scheme covers all aftercares and eye examinations and gives a discount on glasses and sunglasses.

Regular aftercares are essential for all contact lens wearers, but particularly for new wearers, to maintain continuing clear vision and good ocular health. Our optometrists will advise on your individual aftercare schedule.

Types of Contact Lenses

Ortho K Leslie Warren and Linklaters have always kept up to date with new technology having invested in computerised test charts and clinical digital imaging. We now have the very latest eye mapping equipment allowing us to offer orthokeratology with the Ortho K lens

Already established in many countries, this amazing form of vision correction therapy opens up a new way of life for many short-sighted people. Our patients can now choose to have normal unaided vision with all day freedom from contact lenses and spectacles. This offers a safe, reversible alternative to laser eye surgery.

Ortho K contact lenses are highly oxygen permeable and are worn only while you sleep. In the morning simply remove the lens to benefit from clear unaided vision all day.

This is ideal for sports and swimming and eliminates potential contact lens related irritation in dry, dusty or smoky environments

Soft
Many of contact lenses we fit are soft lenses. They are convenient and instantly comfortable. They come in daily and monthly disposable modalities and can suit a wide range of spectacle prescriptions.

Daily Disposables The ultimate in contact lens convenience- wear them once then throw them away. No hassle with cleaning or disinfecting, and as a fresh pair of lenses is worn each time, they ensure clear vision and good comfort. The lenses can be worn every day, but they are a great alternative for spectacle wearers who want to wear them part time or occasionally, for holidays or special social occasions.

For those who participate in sport and want to keep their eye on the ball, contact lenses give all round clear vision at all times. Daily disposables are the ideal solution, being compact and easy to slip into a bag or pocket.

Daily lenses are available in sphere prescriptions- to correct myopia and hypermetropia, toric prescriptions to correct astigmatism and varifocal designs to suit those who are presbyopic.

Monthly or Fortnightly Disposables These lenses are worn daily for a month/two weeks then thrown away and replaced with a new pair, giving wearers the confidence of fresh lenses in good condition. The lenses need to be removed and cleaned every time they are worn.

The latest contact lens material is silicon hydrogel - a highly breathable material that provides optimal oxygen supply to the cornea, meaning that the lens can be worn for longer during the day without compromising corneal health.

.The advent of silicon hydrogel lenses means that certain monthly lenses are now able to be worn on a continuous, or extended wear basis- up to 30 days and nights.

This is great for those whose job or lifestyle means removing lenses every night is difficult, and saves the hassle of cleaning lenses. For many wearers continuous wear offers a non-surgical alternative to laser treatment.

Gas Permeable Lenses
The modern version of the old ‘hard’ lenses, they are made of a mixture of materials that let oxygen pass through to the cornea

For many spectacle prescriptions, gas permeable lenses give the best clarity and stability of vision. They take slightly longer to get used to than soft lenses, but can last up to a year as they are so durable. They are able to be worn daily and need to be cleaned and stored carefully after each wear. After the initial adaptation period these are often the most successful type of contact lens.

Toric Lenses
Toric lenses correct astigmatism and are available as soft daily, monthly and silicon hydrogel and as gas permeable lenses. Modern toric lens designs offer clear, stable vision for people with astigmatism and are as comfortable as other contact lenses.

Coloured Lenses
Contact lenses can be a fashion accessory! Enhance your natural eye colour or completely change your look with daily or monthly coloured lenses. This type of lens can also be used to hide scarring from eye injuries. Tints vary from subtle shades to brightly coloured ‘fun lenses’ and can be hand painted to match any eye colour.

Contact Lens Options for Presbyopia
Needing different prescriptions for distance and close work does not mean that you can’t try contact lenses. There are various options available in soft daily, monthly and silicon hydrogel and in gas permeable lenses.

• Wear contact lenses to correct distance vision with reading glasses over the top.
• Monovision: Wear your distance prescription in one eye and your reading prescription in the other to give good vision for both.
• The latest varifocal contact lenses have innovative designs allowing you to focus gradually, giving seamless clear vision for distance and near.
